Task:

Ask your students to think about emotive language, how it can cause offence or raise emotional levels. Ask them to take a piece of emotional writing, and to rewrite it so that it becomes completely bland and inoffensive. Perhaps they can study the current obsession with "political correctness", and ask if it is truly possible to hold personal beliefs, and not cause someone offence. Racism, nationalism and extremism can be studied under this criterion.
