By metabolism we include:
respiration
- breathing, aerobic and anaerobic
energy intake - feeding or photosynthesis
excretion - disposal of waste products
Metabolism
is the mechanism by which living things extract energy from the environment
and use it for growth, movement, neural activity and other functions.
The energy is essentially the by-product of chemical processes that
the organism is capable of producing, and is then exploited by the organism
to make it function.
